Masamune’s romantic and dramatic routes are both really nicely done. Except if you play the vita version., there’s a really heartbreaking ending as well. I mean it really tears your heart apart. At least it did for me anyway. I won’t be playing that route again, so I’ll add a description to the dramatic route review.

Mai (or MC) makes her decision to stay in the Sengoku period and live with Masamune. Throughout his route we see them getting closer and closer to one another and finally to the point where it seems they can’t live without one another.

In Masamune’s romantic route, Kennyo plays a part in MC’s kidnapping in Azuchi as she makes her way to Masamune’s manor. She comes across Nobunaga and Hideyoshi who had been in town. Nobunaga shows her a pistol he had bought and then he gives her a pouch full of sugary candy, which has been revealed that Nobunaga is a lover of sweets. Hideyoshi gives MC an umbrella because it’s looking like it’s going to rain, in which he was right. MC ends up being approached by Kennyo who demands to know who she works for. He has a suspicion that she’s Nobunaga’s woman, and MC tries to deny it. He kidnaps her, and MC drops the umbrella and Nobunaga’s gift of candy on the ground.

Masamune goes to Azuchi to look for MC and she’s not there, and Hideyoshi informs him that she was heading over to see him. Masamune goes back and Yojiro shows the umbrella to Masamune that he found as well as the pouch of candies when he walked Shogetsu.

Kennyo is more threatening in Masamune’s route than Mitsunari’s. So we really get to see at least two sides of the monk, which is pretty interesting. Kennyo hides MC in a building and threatens to torture her if she doesn’t tell him the truth about who she is. When one of his followers warn him that people are approaching, Kennyo takes MC and runs off. He stumbles and falls by a cliff and MC discovers he had been injured. She takes a look and there’s an old wound that had reopened. MC tells him that it needs to be cleaned or it’ll get infected. She takes a piece of cloth from her under kimono and wraps it around his wound. Kennyo is confused as to why she would do something like that and called her naive.

It’s not much later Masamune finds her and Kennyo threatens to throw her off the cliff. Anyone who has played Masamune’s route knows what’s going to happen- the fact that he’s eyeing the cliff as he’s talking to Kennyo kind of gives it away. He looks at MC, who instantly trusts him. Ever since Masamune’s wound in the beginning, MC has been learning more about Masamune and understands who he is. So with learning more about Masamune, it helped her to build a significant trust in him, and knows he will do anything to save her and protect her. This whole incident also helps Masamune open up to MC and he tells her his real feelings.

Masamune is actually so surprisingly romantic. And when I say surprisingly, it’s because from the beginning he’s known as a crazy, wild guy. Sure he flirts with MC, but it really can’t be taken seriously at first. At least that’s how I see it. She’s a new female around Azuchi, and she’s so much different than the others. So of course it’s going to raise his curiosity. By Masamune even admitting he’s slept around with other women, that also gives away that he’s never taken romance seriously. And then MC comes along. He’s flirtatious, and pardon the word, but it’s so true- he’s an extremely horny guy. And it later rubs off onto MC. His confusion how he really feels about MC is apparent too. And this actually happens to the others as well, especially Mitsunari. They don’t know how to explain their feelings.

Masamune admits to how the first kiss happened, and makes it apparent that he loved her smile. And getting her to smile more was important to him. So in a way MC’s smile also ropes in his attraction to her.

Ieyasu manages to discover MC and Masamune after they jump off the cliff, leaving Kennyo bewildered. Hideyoshi and Mitsuhide take Kennyo in, and he doesn’t really put up a fight, but reluctantly goes with them to Azuchi. Because MC and Masamune are drenched from falling into the water, Ieyasu refuses to let MC ride with Masamune, and takes her instead.

They have a celebratory feast, and that’s when Masamune announces…rather loudly that MC is going back with him to Oshu. And this causes Nobunaga to stare at them. Hideyoshi, I love him so much too…he always shows concern for MC and is worried about her safety with Masamune. I also think in a way Hideyoshi has taken a liking to MC as well. He grew quite upset when MC went after Masamune to the battle with Kenshin.

Once they are ready to go, MC makes her farewells to Hideyoshi and Mitsunari. Hideyoshi, the forever caring man he really is, tells her to write them when she gets to Oshu and Aoba Castle. Mitsunari of course wants them to come back and visit. And this is when Sasuke comes to say goodbye. This is the ending I don’t really like out of the other routes I have done and Sasuke doesn’t stay in the Sengoku period with MC. He decides to go back, but the promising thing is that he promises to visit her should he return. I can only assume he doesn’t stay because she’s not going to be at Azuchi anymore and will be further away. I grew fond of Sasuke so it kind of disappointed me.  So he talks to her in the alleyway, since he is an enemy (or was) to the Oda forces.

Masamune discovers them and looks at Sasuke, who responds with: “Murphy’s law!”. MC gets nervous and tries to explain, but Masamune tells her he understands. Which is also impressive considering he had no hesitation on trying to kill Sasuke early on. Sasuke is impressed that MC was able to win the heart of Masamune, and told her she would have made an excellent Ninja. He leaves and soon MC and Masamune depart. Once they arrive at Oshu and Aoba Castle, MC is surprised that people know about her already. Masamune announces that she is to be his future wife, and people are so shocked to see him “settle” down with someone.

MC is shocked to see that Masamune has given her a special room for her sewing work (which he lead her to believe they were staying in separate bedrooms in the beginning). Masamune is the sweetest man deep inside, and that’s how he’s become my favorite; I simply adore him and I can certainly see how MC soon falls heavily in love with him. And it’s adorable to see Masamune get caught off guard by her words and blushes.

And it’s discovered later on when Mitsuhide is visiting Aoba, that Masamune has a horrible time telling MC that he loves her. When Mitsuhide has a word with MC, he advises her on what she should do to get Masamune to tell her he loves her. And it works. Mitsuhide is, although a sly and very questionable- on- loyalty “kitsune”, surprisingly good at giving advice on romance. Masamune’s side stories are just as good as MC’s point of view and they help you learn about Masamune and his feelings better.

If you haven’t tried his route yet, I seriously recommend it. He’s just so…attractive and addictive that it’s not even funny. Even his dramatic route is really well done. But I recommend doing his romantic route first.
