Episode nine has got to be the most tear inducing episode of the series so far. I’m a sensitive person in general, so this episode actually made me cry through spots in the episode. We’ve learned before that Ema had to get her family information to get her passport and when she finally does…she learns she was adopted by her father Rintarou.

This completely breaks her heart and she sits in the pouring rain on the bench thinking about how she must have been someone that no one needed. Natsume calls her, and she instantly hangs it up, only to have Natsume standing in front of her, telling her she could have at least picked up the phone. He tells her Ukyo had told him that she hadn’t come home so Natsume took it upon himself to look for her.

Ema tells him she doesn’t want to go home, and he asks her if she wants to go to his apartment, because she shouldn’t stay out in the rain. She agrees and they go to his home. They are greeted by two cats (which are very energetic), named Tsubaki and Azusa…and Natsume tells Ema it’s a long story why he named them that.

Ema takes a shower, and later Natsume had told her that while she was in the shower, he called Ukyo to let them know she was okay. He explained to Ema that if he hadn’t, the police would have been called. According to Natsume, everyone was completely worried about her. Ema repeats that she is someone that is not needed and Natsume points out she had said it before and asks why. After Natsume apologizes for his brothers’ behaviors, he goes on to tell her she is needed by the family. This is when Ema takes out her paperwork and reveals to Natsume that she was adopted.

Ema decided to go back home, and Natsume grabs her and says she is needed and he isn’t letting her go anywhere and kisses her. It was clear Natsume had started to like her before, and this episode seems to be a Natsume/Ema story besides the fact she discovers she’s adopted. We never get to see much of Natsume so it’s kind of nice to see an episode with him in it a bit more. He apologizes for kissing her, after he stops himself from doing it again. He realizes that it’s not fair for her, and it wasn’t right for him to do it then.

They go to bed with Natsume on the floor and Ema on the bed. The next morning Ema makes breakfast and Natsume gets out of the shower, only to ask what she was doing. She turns to look at him only wearing a towel…and surprisingly the guy has a six pack. I mean it’s extremely toned. This is something no one would have expected from someone so serious and dresses up all the time. As soon as they sit down to eat, the doorbell rings and it’s Louis and Juli.

After the meal, Natsume goes to talk to the brothers at the condo and Louis gives Ema a dress and does her hair. Juli asks her what had happened and Ema doesn’t respond right away. They sit down and Ema shows Louis the paperwork, and how Juli reacts, it gives away the fact that he knew the whole time, but didn’t want to say anything. Louis offers to go to the park and they go for a boat ride. This is also a nice episode in the sense that we finally get to know Louis a bit more. He makes an appearance in the episodes, but not as much as the others.

Louis reveals he was adopted too, and that he wasn’t related to anyone in the household. He tells her it took a long time of agonizing to finally get over it and realize he was part of the family, even if he was adopted. After explaining his whole history, he tells her the condo is their home, and they should go home.

They sit in the park for a little bit more and Juli is the first to fall asleep, followed by Louis. Ema realizes she had kept those two up all night worrying about her, and she apologizes before she falls asleep. She suddenly has this dream, in which Juli becomes a human. He has purple eyes and longish hair, some pulled back in braids. He apologizes for not telling her, and goes on to tell her that her parents had died when she was still a baby, and that Rintarou was the one to adopt and take care of her. It is revealed what her parents looked like as well.

Juli tells her he didn’t tell her because he didn’t know how to, and that the whole entire time, Rintarou took care of her as if she was his very own daughter. Juli tells her he loves her and that’s when Ema wakes up. She gets a text message from her dad, saying he heard what happened and he apologized for the sadness she was going through. He sends her a picture of her parents and she was surprised because they were the ones shown in her dream.

The next scene was a bit of a tear jerker too; when she finally comes home and the brothers are all there to welcome her home. They don’t look at her any differently after Natsume tells them what had happened.  Yusuke seemed extremely upset, saying they were seriously worried about her. Wataru hugs her and says that there will be “punishment” for having him worry. Ema looks shocked and Wataru laughs, and hands her a note, saying it was from Futo. When she opens it, it’s the exact saying Wataru told her. So this seems to be the kind of talk Futo uses no matter what. In the beginning he comes across as a snooty jerk, but after watching more episodes, there is a realization that he may not know how to talk to people the right way because he’s a pop star and doesn’t really communicate as much with the others. This however is an assumption, and it could be a possibility.

Ukyo suggests she rest a while while he makes dinner and she tells him she would like to make it instead. Everyone helps make dinner in some way, and Wataru is in the kitchen helping Ema.  She realizes she is loved and appreciated by everyone there, and that no matter what, they were family, and that Louis had been right. Ema is surprised once more when Juli tells her that a smile looked better on her. She turns to look at him and the camera zooms in close to him.

All the episodes have emotional moments like this, but not as bad as this one. You have episodes where Azusa in the hospital, Tsubaki fighting with him and then feeling bad, and then there is Subaru and his relationship with Natsume. Also the fact Subaru is struggling with everything and confessing his love for Ema. This time, it’s a whole different level of emotions, and I was not expecting it at all after so many funny moments in past episodes.
