Let’s talk about what/who Melissa actually is. Zeus created Melissa and it went horribly wrong…enough that he looked like a doll, more than a human being. Despite Zeus’ goof on his creation, Melissa is actually really adorable, and has the habit of calling Yui by her last name…but pronounced wrong. Instead of calling her Kusanagi, he ends up calling her Kutanagi. Broccoli decided to bring Melissa in as a main character, and people might ask…how can that be? He’s a doll! This is pretty much a brief summary on Melissa’s route, as I’m still learning my Japanese and trying to translate at least some of the game. Although…it is somewhat easy to figure what is going in each route. So it’s not that bad.

Well, they found a way, and it actually works. Both in the anime and otome games, Melissa is there to listen to Yui’s problems. Sometimes the things he says and does is really amusing. He has a very bubbly personality and wants to learn everything he can. Melissa’s route is pretty much the only one where the guy gets to stay in Yui’s dorm all the time. Melissa and Yui bond, getting to know one another and Yui helps him learn about things. Zeus refuses Melissa’s wish to become human. Melissa looks up at the stars with Yui, and they both wish for Melissa to become human. Obviously it works, but when something good happens, you know it may not last. Melissa has blonde hair put up into a ponytail, and like his doll form, he has one red eye, and one green eye.

Yui and Melissa are both shocked about it, and the thing is, once that happens, Melissa is standing in front of Yui pretty much butt naked. Yui is able to get him some clothes from Zeus, and obviously Melissa can’t sleep in his doll house anymore. So…he sleeps on Yui’s couch.  Tomokazu Seki is wonderful as Melissa. I say that about a lot of the voice actors in the game/anime, but he really puts life into Melissa. Although Melissa has been turned into a human, his personality hasn’t changed. He’s always there when Yui has to talk to him, but he also wants to get closer to her than they had been when he was the doll. Melissa starts developing feelings for Yui, but he doesn’t know if he wants to tell her quite yet.

As the story progresses, Melissa starts having symptoms of not being well, but he doesn’t say anything to Yui and brushes it off. His symptoms gradually worsen, but still, he ignores it. They go to a school event where they get close to one another, and eventually they kiss. It’s about this time that Melissa collapses onto the ground. Thoth says they can’t do anything about it because Melissa was originally a doll. His condition worsens; it’s easy to tell he knows what is going to happen and he tries to end the relationship with Yui. It gets pretty sad. For me it does anyway, but then again, I do become a sensitive soul when sad things happen in games.

Yui fights to save Melissa…she loves him. Zeus comes across kind of a dick in this route, but he decides to help them. Melissa fights with her…not as in angry fight, but he just doesn’t think it is possible for anything to happen between him and Yui after graduation. Yui tells Zeus she wants to be with Melissa afterward, and after being told how it could possibly happen, Yui decides to leave her world behind and she becomes a goddess and Melissa becomes a god. Zeus in this instance is kind to both Melissa and Yui ,welcoming them to the Greek world.
