So let me introduce you to two really beautiful otome games by Broccoli/Brains Base. The first is Kamigami no Asobi, the second is a prequel: Kamigami no Asobi Infinite.I will start off discussing Infinite as that was the first one I jumped into; each route will be covered. I fell in love with the anime, which was based off the game (I’ll review that on another post). So when I heard the announcement of Infinite was coming out for the Vita, I had to get it. It’s all in Japanese, but I have used Google translate for a lot of it, and I also took Japanese class, so I’m learning.
Anyway, I started with the second game because I couldn’t find the original at first. If you are new to the game and the anime, then let me introduce you to it. Kamigami no Asobi is basically called “Mischief of the Gods”. In this game there are three Greek Gods, three Norse Gods, two Japanese and two Egyptian Gods.

These gods are: Apollon, Dionysus, Hades, Loki, Thor, Baldr, Tsukuyomi, Susanoo, Anubis and Thoth. The main protagonist: Kusanagi Yui. Unlike other characters in otome (Yui in Diabolik Lovers for instance), she comes across strong and really doesn’t put up with any crap from the stubborn gods, Susanoo, Loki and Hades. The anime is completely different than the games, so maybe I’ll discuss the anime separately.
In the first game, Kusanagi Yui is suddenly transported to a school, and she has no idea where she is. It turns out Zeus had brought her there as well as the gods. Of course Loki, Hades and especially Susanoo (also named Totsuka Takeru) give her the most difficult time, which does happen in the anime too. Hades is the God of the Underworld and thinks misery will surround those around him. Takeru…is basically a nasty jerk. But with Yui’s help, he becomes the most lovable sweetest thing, that you wouldn’t expect from him. In the first game, the love routes are for Hades, Apollon, Tsukito, Takeru, Baldur and Loki…and once you finish them you have to finish the Anubis route to get to Thoth . I will post about the first game later with the anime. But…this is where Infinite comes in.

Kamigami no Asobi: Infinite is the same game pretty much except now, you as Yui, can do routes with Dionysus, Thor, Melissa, and Akira. I don’t want to spoil everyone about Melissa except no, he’s not a girl, and his story line is actually very good. The only bad thing about the second game is…it focuses more on these four guys, and the love stories with the other gods are extremely short. BUT… Hades has a happy ending in this one!! From what I heard, his route in the first game is…well depressing. That’s why I am hesitant to play his route now that I have the first game. But what can you expect when Hades IS the god of the Underworld?
With the routes for Dionysus, Thor, Akira, and Melissa, they have two for love endings and then two for fate endings. I haven’t even tried the fate endings yet because the love endings alone grabs at your heart. I kid you not, this is probably one of the most emotional games I have ever played. The soundtrack is amazing, and the pictures are gorgeous.

Here’s the thing with dating Apollon, Hades, Takeru, etc. You have to play at least ONE ending for Dionysus (who, obviously, unlocks Apollon and Hades.) This goes on with Akira and Thor as well. I am working on the Melissa route right now, so I’m thinking he may unlock Thoth and Anubis. When you unlock the gods, Yui learns about their mythology. Takeru and Tsukito teach her about Japanese mythology…despite the fact she’s Japanese and helps run the Kusanagi shrine. At some point in this story line, it breaks off and you can choose to go with Takeru, or Tsukito. This is the same with Apollon and Hades, and Loki and Balder (why they spell it that way, I have no idea…it’s actually Baldr.) Balder is the only one that actually has an explicit image, which is annoying because I actually like the others much better.

All of the gods, apart from Thoth, who is their teacher at Zeus’ school, look like the typical 16-17 year old school guy. Each one of them reveal their true form to Yui, and for some reason, poor Yui seems terrified with Loki. Maybe it’s because he’s unpredictable, fiery and plays a bunch of pranks… which comes in handy when he helps Yui press onward with her relationship with a hesitant Thor.
If you like otome games, or reverse harem anime, you may enjoy this game a lot. It’s emotional, you feel for the characters, and the voice actors are amazing. Daisuke Ono (Erwin in Attack on Titan), Yoshimasa Hasoya (Reiner in Attack on Titan) and Noriaki Sugiyama (Sasuke Uchiha in Naruto), just to name a few are part of the cast that bring these characters to life. There is no actual voice for Kusanagi Yui, as you are playing her yourself. In the anime however, she is voiced by Saori Hayami.
