First off to my followers: I am so sorry I haven’t reviewed Brothers Conflict episode 10 yet. I have been bombarded with homework since I got back to university. I will more than likely do that tonight. Now… to Otakon.
Otakon has come and gone, and now it’s time to look forward to next years’ convention. There were some flaws this year and it irritated me to no end. Look, if the convention has a panel on Sword Art Online, they should at least make two panels. Maybe have one on a Friday and another on Saturday… or something like that. Because each time there’s a SAO event… it sucks! My boyfriend and I couldn’t see the movie last year because there were too many people. This time, it was the same deal…for a panel. If Otakon knew SAO (they had to have known) was incredibly popular, you would think that they would come up with a better solution. But I digress.
Day one was amazing (with quite a few flaws, but was an okay day overall). But finding parking was a pain in the ass. My boyfriend and I got down there Friday early afternoon. It was about 1:30 PM and we spent an hour to an hour and half going in circles trying to find a parking spot. Even our hotel parking was full! It doesn’t help either that a lot of the garages close during the weekend. So we ended up walking 3 blocks to the hotel and then to the car on Sunday.
The first thing we saw was the Dragon Ball Super exhibit and it was fantastic. I don’t know the whole deal, but apparently some of the figures that people wanted to buy were missing during transit to Otakon. So this caused a ruckus. But there was nothing that Otakon or DBS exhibition, could have done to fix it for that weekend. The exhibit itself wasn’t as packed as I expected. But it could have been
around the time a lot of people went to panels or went to eat. I looked at all the figures they had on display, but what really impressed me most…were the statues. They were extremely detailed. Yes, that is Vegetas’ butt. That picture was taken to show just how detailed those statues are.
There was a nimbus cloud you could pose on, with Goku and the gang in the background. The exhibit was one of the major things I was looking forward to. I was somewhat disappointed that Otakon couldn’t get Christopher Sabat or Sean Schemmel but I think they were both at other conventions. It just didn’t seem entirely complete without them.

Another thing I noticed with the exhibit was that the amount of figures they were selling. There were only a few that were sold out surprisingly. I had a few Gokus and Gotenks figures already so I went with a Vegeta figure. I went fairly cheap because I knew I was going to spend a lot of money that weekend. I should have walked around more first before buying the first Vegeta I saw…because I saw better ones along the way that were either the same price or pretty much the same price. Ugh.

For some reason, it seemed like there was more space to walk around in the dealers room, which was where the exhibit was. I expected to see a LOT of My Hero Academia cosplayers, and yes…there were. There were some amazing cosplayers this year…and yet again, social anxiety kicked in full force. I was actually brave enough to talk to at least five people for pictures; but disappointed that I didn’t get many pictures.
Otakon is in an okay area for restaurant choices. I would have recommended the Irish pub Fado, which is just down the street from the convention center, but I got severely sick from something I ate there. So don’t try it next year… or at least don’t eat what I did. They seem to change their menu yearly so I couldn’t have what I did last year. Don’t eat quesadillas from there people. It’s a really bad idea, and I had to cut my first day short for quite a while :(. The drinks are fantastic though, if you are a party person.
Panel wise, I missed a whole bunch that I wanted to see. And part of that was there were too many people waiting, or the guidebook app would not send me alerts for the panels I wanted to go to. The photo suite was okay; not as spectacular as last year…I actually have a lot to say on that, so I’ll add a page to this particular section of the blog specifically on that.
