Again, I apologize for my constant disappearance. I am finally close to graduating from college (I go part time, thus taking longer to do so.) I had taken time off to fully focus on classes that way I will be able to graduate. This whole summer though, will be dedicated to this blog and making it full of life again.
Bandai Namco and Banpresto had released My Hero
Academia figures earlier on this year. I had actually found Deku, Todoroki and Bokugo at a Hot Topic outlet store by our local beaches. Which is funny because I have never seen this figures at a Hot Topic at our local mall.
But stumbling across this figure, I just had to get it; but it ended up being a birthday gift in the end. Banpresto/ Bandai have always made really good figures. At least the ones I have gotten from them. They may not be as detailed as say, the $200+ figures, but if you are on a strict budget (low paying job, school, etc.), then they are the figures you would want to check out first.
Todoroki is captured in a running pose, and includes his ice and fire. His hand reaches out, fire starting to build up as his boot becomes covered in ice. The only thing I don’t like is the
stand. You have to make sure it’s tightly attached to Shoto, or he will fall off. Which is the most annoying part in getting an anime figure in an action pose.
Todoroki himself doesn’t have flaws on him (scratches, paint marks, etc.). He is actually in excellent condition. His facial expression is full of concentration and a little bit of ferocity. What amazes me about figures is the details in even the hair.
Todoroki’s is not any different. With his pose, his hair is blowing back, and the combination of his red and silver hair is
perfect. I’m really happy I was able to find this. I know Bandai have sold out of MHA figures before, so this was one of those I need to get it right now, or I may never see this again moments.
The details on his suit is also incredible. A lot of figures, the less expensive ones, don’t have as much detail-wise compared to the expensive figures. They don’t usually put much effort into detailing the clothing that much. But these particular MHA figures do.
There are creases in his arms and legs, especially his legs, since he is lifting his leg as he runs. There are more creases in
his thigh because of this, and it’s the leg that has all the icy details in his boot.
The block of ice on the stand is a nice addition. Usually stands on figures are plain and rather boring. If people are one of those collectors that like a lot of detail but can’t afford the really, really detailed figures, then you can find something like this that is priced mid-range. I would say one of the main reasons action figures get so ridiculous in price is because of all the hard work and effort that is put into creating the figure.
This Todoroki was about $45.00, so it’s not that bad of a price for what you are getting. You get that detail in Todoroki, and
the stand, the likeness of the character that is spot on, and his pose which is perfect for his personality. When looking at Deku and Bokugo, they were pretty much posed in what you would say was ideal for how their personalities are in the series.
So, if you are looking for a MHA figure to add to your collection, even Todoroki, then this one would be a good one to get. The price is right in between the inexpensive and the expensive, so overall he is affordable. You could always look into eBay as well since there is a lot of anime merchandise on there as well. Most of the time, I prefer buying from the company first, but if I can’t find something at all…anywhere, then I will go to eBay.
