I’m going to switch back and forth from series from now on because I have a vast amount of anime series I want to review. I picked up Brothers Conflict from Right Stuf anime and it contains the whole episodes and 2 OVAs. As an anime fan, I tend to go to the reverse harem series the most, but there are a lot out there I watch that aren’t otome based or reverse harem. When I first watched this, I fell in love with it…not just because Daisuke Ono, Yoshimasa Hosoya and Hiroshi Kamiya are in it. But the three are a bonus!

In the first episode, which is called “Brothers”, Ema Hinata or “Chii” as her pet squirrel BCChiiJuliJuli (Hiroshi Kamiya) calls her, is moving into a huge home with her new brothers, while her father and new mother-in-law live in a different home. Not one of the stepbrothers are blood-related to her and are the sons of her mother-in-law. At this point Ema sees them simply as siblings. Meanwhile…the others gradually think otherwise.Like Kamigami no Asobi, they all get jealous and fight with one another. Maybe not as bad…but still, there is competition. Juli is very protective of Ema, sometimes overprotective, and the interesting thing is he is able to talk to Ema and she can understand him and he tells her he will protect her from the “horde of males”. This whole episode is pretty much the setup of how the rest of the series will be like.

When Ema first arrives at the house she meets Masaomi and Wataru Asahina. Masaomi comes across as a calm, caring guy and he has a very gentle voice. Wataru is still a kid and is very, every energetic. Masaomi had the movers bring in Ema’s things and Juli admits the two aren’t as bad as he was expecting. It is not known where Ema is when the BCSubaruscene is directed at Juli. But it sets up an amusing bit where he runs into Subaru (Daisuke Ono) and Kaname Asahina. Subaru finds Juli wedged between the sofa and a plant, and Kaname picks him up, only to be scratched on the nose.

It’s not that eventful in the episode, but you can’t expect much to happen in the very first episode…but it lets you get to know the characters better, and their personalities. It should be noted that Ema is not the only one that can talk to and listen to Juli, but one of the brothers can as well.

Ema ends up meeting Tsubaki and Azusa Asahina, who are supposed to be identical twins. But they aren’t exactly identical. Tsubaki is a terrible, terrible flirt. He gives Ema a BCTsubakisqueeze and states it’s a “nice to meet you squeeze”.

Before Juli can jump down and attack Tsubaki first, Azusa hits him and knocks him onto the ground. To be honest, Tsubaki reminds me of Subaru from “Diabolik Lovers”…only pleasant and flirtatious.

Tsubaki tends to whine and make a lot of noise, which causes Yusuke to show up and get mouthy with him. Yusuke (Yoshimasa Hosoya) notices Ema, and goes into full panic mode. He has had a crush on her for a long time, and is her classmate at school. So whenBCYusuke2 he sees this, he doesn’t want to accept it. Tsubaki was supposed to let Yusuke know beforehand, but didn’t. Yusuke catches on that it was intentional, and gets into a heated argument with Tsubaki.

The animation to the show is beautiful. Ema has an unusual look to her that makes her stand out from other female characters. And Juli is an incredibly cute little squirrel, and the angry faces that he makes is even more adorable.

Everything calms down eventually and Ema sits in the living room with the brothers. She is told that they have a 15 year old brother that is a pop singer known as Asakura, but his real name is Futo Asahina. Yusuke mentions that Futo is in Hokkaido at the moment on his tour.

Ema starts to feel unwell, and her vision goes blurry. She falls forward, grabbing hold of the table and Masaomi comes to her aid, and discovers she is burning up. She is taken to her room where she is laying down and talking to both Kaname and Masaomi. It’s at this point she meets yet another brother, and it’s’ the eighth son, Louis, a hair stylist.

I’ll leave the story review there, as I really don’t want to spoil the episodes; should there be anybody that hasn’t seen this yet. The animation, as I said, is quite nice, and it’s a bit unique compared to other series. The story line is interesting and it will probably develop more towards the end and definitely in the OVAs, as most story lines do. At the end, you get to enjoy the voice actors singing the end song.
