Episode five starts off right from the end of episode four, and shows Hishiro discovering Arata and Kariu on the floor at the bottom of the stairs. Arata wakes up in the nurses IMG-1422office where the nurse informs him Hishiro had brought his and Kariu’s belongings to them. While Kariu is still knocked out, Arata asks himself why Kariu would take Hishiro’s bag. This whole episode pretty much is about the struggles between Hishiro and Kariu.

Once Kariu wakes up, Arata basically bombards her with questions. As to why she took Hishiro’s bag and if she stole anything. Kariu says she didn’t steal anything, but admits she just wanted to give Hishiro some trouble because she was jealous. So Arata isn’t mad with Kariu, but feels sad for her. In a way, he’s giving her a lecture, which definitely is his 27 year old self coming through. He tells Kariu that she is still young, and not to act like a “filthy” adult. Of course, Kariu, IMG-1427seeming to be a bit on the hot-headed side, yells at him and not to lecture her. She also admits she was trying to beat Hishiro and even Honoka, and questions why they don’t see her as a threat.

Kariu ends up breaking down and crying, leaving Arata to comfort her. He tells her that she’s never really talked to Hishiro, even if Hishiro is awkward. He lets Kariu know that Hishiro is even trying with socializing with other people.

When Arata leaves, he runs into Hishiro, who had been waiting for him that whole time. She had been thinking about the whole incident, and questions Arata on why Kariu had IMG-1434her bag. With a personality like Hishiro, Arata doesn’t know how to tell her at first. First he lies to her, and and when Hishiro looks relieved that Kariu moved it because it was unsafe, Arata changes his mind and tells her Kariu did take the bag. He also lets her know that Kariu did it because she wanted the silver pin and was jealous.

This is a great big discussion between Hishiro and Arata, and why Kariu has problems with Hishiro. The whole time she questions herself as to why people react to her the way they do, and she wants to be friends with Kariu; but the problem with that is that she doesn’t know how to be. She admits that she’s never been properly socialized, but she was trying to learn how to be. Episodes four and five have been the most emotional of the first few episodes, and people can really feel for the characters, which makes it such a good series. We get to see a huge difference in Arata as well as he progresses in the ReLife experiment.

Hishiro tells Arata to go home and that she will deal with her problem herself. Arata agrees and then decides to come back. Yoake suddenly pulls Arata into the bushes and they both watch the conversation between Hishiro and Kariu. This seems to be a IMG-1433common thing with guys in anime, in which they become nosy and snoop. This is also seen in Kamigami no Asobi. Ah the curiosity of boys in anime. Arata asks why Yoake is watching Hishiro, when he’s supposed to study Arata.

Arata panics as Hishiro flat out asks Kariu if she wants the silver pin, as this basically calls Arata out for telling Hishiro what Kariu told him. I feel bad for Hishiro now, because it is obvious she is trying so hard to make friends, and a lot of it has to do with the way she smiles at people and how she communicates with them as well. Kariu tells Hishiro that she hates her and feels like she mocks her all the time. Hishiro explains that’s not what she is doing. Kariu remembers what Arata said about Hishiro smiling, and so she asks her to smile for her several times. When she realizes Hishiro’s smile is actually creepy, Kariu tells her that she sucks.

Eventually they do become friends that evening as Hishiro opens up to Kariu and she realizes that Hishiro is indeed, trying to put in effort to make friends. The episode ends with Yoake and Arata drinking beer at Arata’s place, celebrating the fact that Arata had helped Hishiro and Kariu become friends. I am really loving this anime, and I could see myself binge-watching this one. I can’t wait to watch episodes six and seven, and try to give you guys the best reviews I can. Until then, stay tuned!
