This episode begins by introducing the audience to Megumi, a girl that leaves her family to go learn at the same school as Soma. She is the complete opposite of Erina; she is very sweet and doesn’t act rude towards others. Although when she meets Soma, the way Soma behaves leaves her with a bad impression.

This episode is great in so many ways. The bad guys get what they deserve at the end. IMG-0343Megumi and Soma actually work really well together, and again the animation is just beautiful. And if I have forgotten to say it before, I think the intro song and end song are just awesome. Anyway, I’m going to continue on without rambling. Megumi makes her way to the school and it’s now known that she is not a very good cook and is on the verge of being expelled. But she doesn’t want to let her family down, so she won’t give up.

After Soma gives an egotistical speech in front of all the students, claiming he’ll take the top spot, he pretty much alienates himself from them. Even Megumi is not impressed by him.But to her dismay, she is grouped up with Soma to make a meal that will make the IMG-0364teacher/chef Roland Chapelle smile. They are assigned to create Beef Bourguignon and although Megumi isn’t too happy with being with Soma, she wants to try hard to get an A in the class. As they put the ingredients together, Soma is occupied and Megumi watches over the cooker. When she steps away for a brief moment, two students who had been watching the two closely decide to sabotage their meal by dumping salt into the cooker, and hope that Soma and Megumi get a failing grade.

When Megumi and Soma find this out, Megumi thinks they are pretty much doomed to IMG-0373fail, and she expects to be expelled. Soma surprises her by bringing “backup” ingredients and they continue on cooking. When Chapelle is offered the meal, he notices the meat is tender, even though he knew Megumi and Soma had run into trouble with their meal. When he bites into the food, everyone is blown away because they have never seen Chapelle smile before. Soma had used honey to help tenderize the meat, and Megumi is grateful for Soma coming up with something so they could get a passing grade.

At this point, the two students that had sabotaged the meal, were too busy seeing Chapelle smile, that they burned their own meal and ended up with a failing grade. The episode is great.  Having watched just three episodes, I can actually see why it is so popular. Stay tuned for the next review.
