Night Raid in Akame Ga Kill

Starting off my anime reviews, is going to be Akame Ga Kill.  When I first saw this, I couldn’t believe how emotional this anime could be. I am sure there are a lot more brutal anime out there, but this one certainly is gruesome. You grow to like the characters, and without revealing anything, you get pretty pissed off the fact you grow fond of a character, only to have something happen to them.

We start off learning about the main character, Tatsumi, who wants to set off and earn money to support his village. He goes off with his friends Sayo and Ieyasu to do so. Unfortunate events arise, and the things that happen to his friends cause Tatsumi to seek vengeance. He comes across Leone in the capital.  Leone seems to find something in Tatsumi that would make him suitable to join Night Raid….after she takes his money. Night Raid is a group whose main job is to assassinate people in the capital.

Leone seems to take a liking to Tatsumi very quickly. He soon meets Lubbock, Bulat, Mine, Sheele, and Akame. They all warm up to him rather quickly…except Mine. Most viewers may be annoyed by her voice or behavior, but going towards the end of the anime, people will grow on her. Her personality changes somewhat over time.

Akame ga Kill has a good starting point, introducing the main protagonist to the viewers and the beginning is not as slow as other anime tend to be. Some of the characters on the bad side, such as Akame’s little sister, Kurome can really be annoying. Which when you think about it, that’s how bad guys should be. To me this was an intense anime, with some funny moments…usually with Leone with her gigantic boobs. She smushes Tatsumi’s face in them, and Lubbock had been caught trying to look at them while Leone bathed outside.lubbock

If you are just starting out in the anime world, this may not be the one to start with, unless you are really into gore and action. As I have said, I am not going to spoil anything from the series, as I think it’s better to see for yourself what it’s about. This is definitely not a series for a younger audience. That I can tell you. The ending in the anime is completely different from that in the manga. So I would suggest to read the manga series if you are into manga as well.

There are some epic battle scenes and the animation is really well done. Overall it’s very interesting to watch, and the characters are well-developed. The plot line follows most of the manga but changes in the end as mentioned. I highly recommend Akame Ga Kill…it definitely will not bore you, and it leaves you wanting to watch more.

Unfortunately it is only 24 episodes, which most anime series have for a first season, but there literally is no continuation. If you need a place to find it, you can find it on Crunchyroll.
